It's the oldest story in the book: boy meets girl, boy and girl exchange phone numbers, boy and girl keep in touch, girl moves close to boy, boy dates girl, boy and girl fall in love, boy proposes to girl, girl accepts, boy and girl are now getting married. The twist to this magical tale of romance? The happy couple met via online Halo matches.
Desirai Labrada and John Henry met a couple of years ago in Halo 2, shortly after the game was released. The two were Live contacts who became fast friends as they chatted the matches away and, eventually, they exchanged phone numbers so they could coordinate gaming sessions. That turned into phone conversations, and during March of 2005 they started an official online relationship. They met in person when Desirai moved down to Florida for school, and on their anniversary this year, John proposed. The rest is history.
The adorable geekiness of this story doesn't end there, as the couple has themed their January wedding around Bungie's celebrated Halo series. "They're not going so far as to make everyone dress up—especially since Desirai wants to wear a real wedding dress," Geeks are Sexy reports. "But there will be a Halo cake and Halo rings and the bridal march will be replaced by the music from the Halo 3 loading screen… well, you get the picture. Also, instead of a firstdance there's going to be a groom vs. bride tournament. And of coursethey’ve already sent out Halo-themed invitations."
This is one of those stories which you can't help but smile a little about as you read it, mainly because it comes across as both sweet and geeky. Those interested in the upcoming marriage can check out the couple's official website, and see how to pull off a wedding ceremony with even more gamer nerd appeal than Ben's.
Ben's thoughts
Having a Rock Band set up at your wedding isn't that geeky…
21st century….. 😀
My question is if they went all the way with the Halo theme what would be the wedding ring?…
