  2. Charles, aren’t you mixing here the Gnome vs. the KDE footprint or DeskTop? They gradually move into eachothers direction (KDE to Gnome that is?), the Gnome footprint is most popular still and more refined (tmho). I agree that TAMIL should go for ‘jaunty jackalope’ U-9.04. Take a look at my blogpost on 904 about a few aspects I encountered and their solution. Now we have a super-fast OS I see a vast difference between FireFox 3.0.10 and the latest Opera 9 version. The latter … sucking on it. The underlying problem I now discovered (still) is Java. If Ubuntu has a problem, then it is Java which crashes or gives up. FireFox continues to do YouTube, but Opera rather quickly gives up. I have removed it now from jaunty and wait for V.10.;)

  3. I don’t know Linux very well or Gnome vs. the KDE, I am just spreading the word ;)Have you tried reinstalling Java on that machine nepmak2000?I do know that there is a Linux for here on MyO for Opera and a Linux group in MyO

  4. Thanks for the hint, Charles. Yes, I reinstalled JRE and more. But I prefer to wait for O10 now after twice trouble of unexplainable origins. It’s not Opera itself, but I assume something connected to/with it. As soon as Opera gives up on YouTube I know something is wrong under the hood… U904*FireFox doesn’t suffer from the same and fetches websites faster as well, what you notice because of the fast speed of jaunty!!So I hope O10 will improve on that and will be as conservative with its resources. I prefer Opera, but for my investigative work I must use FF…

  5. nepmak2000 Youtube is mostly Flash based, and I do know that there is a bug in the latest version Flash Player 10 for mac and linux that causes the browser to crash. (I have sent the crash reports in) You could try the download of Flash Player in Opera Have you look to see if any other errors that could interfere. Does Linux have something similar to Scandisk on Windows that you could use?I have noticed that with each update to Opera 9 I have notice that it gets a little faster. The trouble sites in Opera and FF are from sites looking for the IE and windows combo. You can contact them to support all browsers not just IEWhy Open the Web?Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users. When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices. However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.http://my.opera.com/community/openweb/info/

  6. Call me John, Charles. See my blog entry on Jaunty at the bottom I have addressed the matter. I gave it a try right after reading your earlier comment. It failed dearly again. In the Ubuntu Jaunty forums voices go up on this problem again. Even O-10 beta is mentionned with much of the same. What I noticed is a referal in usr/share… plugin.init to KDE, which is strange then Jaunty is Gnome, as was Entrepid. Under Entrepid I didn’t have the quirk I now see. What I also find intriguing is the activity from certain Mozilla plugins like NoScript and I wonder if any of these might interfere (I am no programmer though). Anyway it appears to me a case of great attention and vigilance. That apart from an orderly uninstaller for Opera…:eyes:
